At the start of the summer I visited the “Vegana food fest”, the first vegan street food festival in Zurich! #FAN!
I was very surprised by the amount of people who attended, besides from being lucky with the weather, the good and happy energy was everywhere. It was an awesome opportunity to experience different views of Veganism, from simple juices and smoothies, to creative cooking, such as my experience with vegan Fish and chips from Unmeat fast food catering. Then there was the complete vegan lifestyle magazines, clothes, shoes, wine and even vegan hotels!
I was pleased to talk to some vegan innovators like the people from ‘HEYLIFE’ who offer delivery of healthy juices and nut milks to your home or office. With really cool branding and packaging!
The Green Fairy produces organic, fair trade, vegan ice-cream. Located in Zurich, Sonja Dänzer and her team already sell their products in supermarket chains and she has published a vegan ice-cream recipe book. Now they have a great initiative to do natural healthy vegan popsicles for kids made with smoothies! If you want to know more and support this cause please click here.
Apart from veggies and the lifestyle, vegan is also about keeping healthy and challenging yourself and reaching new goals physically. I had the chance to meet Matthias Kegelmann who runs a vegan Callisthenics muscle builder group. Callisthenics means exercising with your own body weight, increasing your body strength, mass and flexibility in performing movements like bending, jumping, swinging, twisting…etc. Sounds like fun! More to come about Callisthenics soon.
Matthias fuels himself with a vegan diet, he is the proof that it's a myth that plant-based diet lacks proteins and nutrients.
These businesses are doing an amazing effort locally to put out premium quality products! I encourage you to look for products and initiatives like these in your town and country, find out more about vegan fairs and meet-ups and - to keep it green - support the local efforts!
For me, this experience was a reinforcement of my beliefs in the benefit of a plant based diet and a boost to go vegan in other parts of life; like clothing, daily cosmetics and house supplies that also have a great impact on the environment. And of course, a lot of great ideas for future posts.
Go vegan - for a meal, for a week, for life?
